Actress Shares Story of Unethical Practices in Film Industry
Ankita Lokhande, renowned for her work in television and films, recently shared her encounter with the casting couch in an interview with Hauterrfly.
She disclosed that she was approached for a role in a South Indian film and was informed that she would need to engage in inappropriate behavior with the producer to secure the part.
Recalling the distressing incident, Ankita narrated, “I had auditioned for a South Indian film and received a call asking me to come and sign the contract. Excited, I informed my mother and headed to sign the contract. However, I had reservations about how easily it transpired.”
Upon reaching the venue to sign the contract, Ankita was instructed to enter alone while her coordinator waited outside.
Inside, she was bluntly informed, “You have to compromise.” At the tender age of 19 and aspiring to be a heroine, Ankita was taken aback.
Attempting to navigate the uncomfortable situation, Ankita inquired, “What kind of compromise?” The response she received was direct, “You have to sleep with the producer.”
Ankita promptly declined the unacceptable proposition, asserting, “I don’t believe your producer seeks talent; he simply seeks a girl to exploit, and I am not that girl,” before walking away.
Ankita Lokhande shot to fame for her portrayal in the popular television series Pavitra Rishta alongside the late Sushant Singh Rajput.
She ventured into Bollywood in 2019 with Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi and further appeared in Baaghi 3 alongside Tiger Shroff.
