Elon Musk Reveals Tesla’s Latest Humanoid Robot with Capabilities Including Dancing, Squats, and Egg Boiling

Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled the company’s new humanoid robot during the Tesla AI Day event. The robot, named Tesla Bot, is designed to perform various tasks and is intended to be a general-purpose, fully functional humanoid. Elon Musk mentioned that the robot will be able to perform tasks such as handling tools, carrying groceries, and even doing dangerous work in place of humans.

The Tesla Bot has a sleek white design and is equipped with a screen where its face would be. It stands at 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 125 pounds. According to Musk, the robot is designed to have a top speed of 5 miles per hour and can perform tasks that are repetitive, boring, or dangerous.

Elon Musk showcased the Tesla Bot’s capabilities by demonstrating it performing actions like dancing and doing squats. He also humorously mentioned that the robot could be used to “navigate through a world built for humans.”

Despite the entertaining demonstration, it’s important to note that the Tesla Bot is currently in its early stages of development, and Musk emphasized that it is expected to take a few years before a prototype is ready. Musk stated that the intention behind developing the humanoid robot is to advance the company’s understanding of artificial intelligence and robotics.

It’s worth keeing an eye on Tesla’s future developments to see how the Tesla Bot evolves and whether it becomes a significant part of Tesla’s broader vision for the future.

The upgraded version, Optimus Gen-2, boasts a 30% increase in speed and a weight reduction of 10kg compared to the May prototype, while retaining all of its previous functionalities.

Tesla emphasized enhancements such as improved torque sensing, articulated toe sections, and refined human foot geometry. In a video presentation, Optimus Gen-2 showcased improved balance and full-body control while performing squats in a gym.

The Optimus Gen-2 robot boasts several new features that enhance its performance and capabilities. Here are some of the key improvements:

  1. 30% Faster: The Gen-2 is 30% faster than its predecessor, which improves efficiency in handling tasks.
  2. Sleeker Design: The overall design is more refined, with a sleeker and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
  3. Enhanced Dexterity: Improved fingers and hands provide greater dexterity and manipulation capabilities.
  4. Advanced Vision System: The Gen-2 features a sophisticated vision system for precise navigation and awareness.
  5. Improved Navigation: Upgraded sensors and algorithms ensure smoother and more precise movement.
  6. Greater Payload Capacity: The Gen-2 can carry heavier payloads, expanding its potential applications.
  7. Enhanced Battery Life: The robot now has a longer battery life, allowing extended operation without frequent recharging.

In 2022, Tesla unveiled a prototype robot that can walk and perform basic tasks such as object pickup. Tesla CEO Elon Musk emphasized the significance of this demonstration, stating, “This is literally the first time the robot was operated without [a tether] onstage tonight,” as videos of the robot picking up objects and watering plants were displayed. “We didn’t want it to fall on its face,” he added. During the initial robot unveiling in 2021, Tesla highlighted that it has a custom Tesla computer chip, providing the processing power for intricate tasks.
