Top Priest Announces PM Modi as the Main ‘Yajman’ for Ram Temple Consecration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to play the central role as the “yajman” in the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22, according to Laxmikant Dixit, the chief priest overseeing the ritual. Dixit clarified that contrary to reports, Anil Mishra, a member of the Ram temple trust, who is conducting pre-event rituals, will not be the yajman on the consecration day.

Traditionally, the yajman is the principal host of a puja, representing the person on whose behalf the prayers are offered. Before departing for Ayodhya, Dixit, the main ‘archak’ (priest), affirmed that PM Modi would be the primary yajman for the ‘pran pratishtha’ rituals in Ayodhya. Dixit, who has previously conducted ‘pran pratishtha’ ceremonies at temples in Rajasthan and Odisha, clarified the arrangement.

The series of rituals leading up to the Ram temple consecration ceremony commenced on Tuesday under the guidance of a temple trust member and his wife. The culmination of these rituals will be the consecration or ‘pran pratishtha’ of the Ram Lalla idol at the new temple in Ayodhya. Ram temple chief priest Satyendra Das mentioned that the ‘anushthan’ had begun and would continue until January 22, incorporating the invocation of various deities by eleven priests.
