Binny Bansal, co-founder of the e-commerce giant Flipkart, has resigned from the company’s board, as confirmed by a statement from the company. This decision comes approximately six months after Binny Bansal sold his entire stake in the company. Expressing pride in the achievements of the Flipkart Group over the past 16 years, Bansal highlighted the company’s robust position and strong leadership team. He stated, “I have decided to step aside, knowing the company is in capable hands.” Binny Bansal, who co-founded Flipkart with Sachin Bansal in 2007, had stepped down from the board after Walmart’s acquisition of a 77% stake in 2018.
Apart from being an active angel investor, Binny Bansal has ventured into providing marketing support to sellers on e-commerce platforms through his own firm. Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy acknowledged Bansal’s invaluable insights and expertise, emphasizing the deep impact he has had on the Indian retail ecosystem.
While Flipkart’s valuation has risen to approximately $38 billion, the company continues to face losses. In the financial year 2023, Flipkart reported a 9.4% increase in consolidated net total income to ₹56,012.8 crore compared to ₹51,176 crore in FY 2022. Despite the growth in total income, Flipkart’s consolidated loss widened to ₹4,890.6 crore in FY23 from ₹3,371.2 crore the previous year.
