Live Updates on Farmers’ Protest: Following clashes at the Punjab-Haryana Shambhu Border, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has declared plans to escalate the agitation in the days ahead. Amidst teargas encounters, the protesting farmers organized a Bharat Bandh today, subsequent to the third round of negotiations between Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, farmer union leaders, and Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda, and Nityanand Rai. While addressing the media late last night, Minister Munda highlighted the significance of the farmers’ concerns raised during the discussions, deeming the meeting as “very positive.” The next round of talks is scheduled for Sunday. Meanwhile, the Haryana government extended the suspension of internet services until February 17 to maintain peace and public order.
The farmers’ demands include a guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 23 crops, debt waivers, and the withdrawal of cases filed against them during the 2020-21 farmers’ agitation.
Day 4 Updates on Farmers’ Protest: Haryana Police Releases Videos of Farmers Creating Disruption
The Haryana Police has released a series of video clips showing farmers allegedly engaging in violent activities, including pelting stones and attempting to provoke security personnel at the Shambhu border.
In a statement on their official platform, the police emphasized that such disruptions cannot be tolerated under the pretext of the farmers’ movement. They reported that 25 security personnel, including 18 from the Haryana Police and seven from paramilitary forces, sustained injuries during these clashes.
One of the videos shared by the Haryana Police depicts several masked protesters hurling stones at security personnel, while another shows protesters gathering stones to use against the security forces.
“Despite the warnings from farmer leaders, the violent actions of protesters at the Shambhu Border and Data Singh Border persist. Today, once again, protesters engaged in disruptive behavior and repeatedly attempted to provoke the Haryana Police,” the statement on their official platform stated.
